Our Kitchen Team

Proprietor and Chef James Orford has an extensive culinary background, including training under Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saison and then bringing on young students personally while lecturing restaurant hospitality management. Almost all of our chefs are former students, hand-picked to continue their training under him. Most have been with us since the beginning.

Our Ethos

The common ethos is to provide interesting, high-quality dishes using locally-sourced ingredients. Starting with bread baked fresh each morning, all of our dishes and ice creams are freshly prepared and home-cooked in our kitchens.

There is an eclectic range of dishes designed to fit our pattern of diners ranging from light meals, traditional pub favourites, and more sophisticated fish and meat dishes. Please book a table if you’re planning on visiting on a weekend or bank holiday to avoid disappointment. We get exceptionally busy, and we’d hate for you to miss out!

"Vegetarian meals were superb. We had the halloumi salad with chips, and the mushroom burger. Both were excellent and it's great to see at least 2 proper vegie options on the menu . I eat a lot of halloumi at home and in Lebanese restaurants, and this was the best ever. Great beer too. And the sun shone".
